Bearings not OK after all. Extremely worn. I am getting new bearings, new oil pump/front cover and all the seals involved and a new timing chain. All goes together tomorrow and then I shall get a call about 'normal oil pressure' or 'still no oil pressure'. Fingers crossed.

For Smokey:

TECHNICAL ALERT
March 14, 2003 TA03 1201
NAS US Only Cda Only
ATTENTION: Service Manager Service Advisor Technician

2003 Discovery Series II Oil Pump Failures
Vehicles Affected
Discovery Series II (LT) VIN 3A771801 - 3A808362
Situation
Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a
manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting
assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing
which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure.
Resolution:
Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range
the only effective repair currently available is replacement of the complete engine
assembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.
Use the following components to affect a repair:

LBB112301 4.6 Engine assembly LEV

LBB111461 4.6 Engine assembly NON-LEV

Before you go much further, have them check the crank for wear as well as the cam, cam bearing and lifters. You may be getting into an area wher it will be cheaper to replace with a guaranteed used engine. What is the estimate, parts and labor separate?

we are around $2000 so far far all that is to be done. Still cheaper than a rebuild or a used engine. Just hope I have pressure when they are done :-)

Can't help but feel sorry for ya, but I might have some positive input to add.

The dreaded PO that owned my '03 prior to me was driving from his cabin when he got the oil pressure light. He stated that he turned it off immediately and restarted to see if it cleared. It did not. He then had it towed to a shop and the oil pan was dropped and the pump/front cover was replaced. There did not appear to be any damage on the lower engine.

Anyway, that happened at 48k miles. I now have 57k miles on the clock and the engine's running fine.

If you were quick on the ignition you might be alright as well.

OK , I got a call today. Bearings replaced, front cover and oil pump replaced - oil pressure back to normal. Now truck stumbles and wants to stall. They are going to look into this in the morning and call me ..........................How come when you take your car to get fixed, something else always mysteriously goes wrong. Hmmmmmmmm?

If you mess with the natural order of things the planets will align and the galaxy will implode.
