Is this the Oil Pump that is so bad?
Hello everyone,
So I'm replacing my Valve Cover and timing cover gaskets and noticed the crankshaft gear is inside what I beleive is the oil pump. If this is in fact the oil pump, what is all this talk about everyones oil pump going out. This type pump is about as hard core as it gets..............

yep
thats it.. my gear had a crack in it and could only see when i pulled out and was pulling on it. Whats the shape of the cover surface? is it scored at all or does the face and cover plate look the same? Let me know as i have mine apart also....may have to buy a rebuilt one from over the pond as they are about $200.00 cheaper that here.. Let us know.
Thanks Chris

Forrest has about 88k miles and the real reason for this project was the leaking Valve Covers. I thought it would be good to replace the timing cover gasket as well; I'm the second owner and got him with about 49k. Anyway, the gears were fine and the cover was straight and not cracked.
So the oil pump problem is just the 03 year model?
Thanks,

That is one of the dirtiest engine I have seen in a long while, you may want to look further, that isn't v/c gasket leaking, they leak to the rear of the engine.
Also before reinstalling the intake manifold, check/tighten the lower manifold bolr, they tend to vibrate loose. Might also consider using some red Lock Tite on the 6 upper bolts and torque to specs.
