Jason had to abandon his Disco and I mean ABANDON it. All of that expensive stuff has been towed to an impound and he won't be able to claim it. What a shame.

It seems that every proved OM617 swap results in a blown engine. For that reason I'm sticking mine back in the 300cd and sending the car to the paint shop. If anyone knows how to get a 2.8 TGV in the US for a reasonable price I'm all ears.

Why go with a 2.8? Harder to get parts for the small gain over a 300tdi

Well yes, harder to get parts here and the price here is absurd though a 300tdi isn't much better for parts (in the US) and the last fully rebuilt one I saw for sale was 5900 plus shipping.

He was running it on transmission fluid with some diesel mixed in.

Isn't that the truth?! I admire people who can get stranded or suffer horrible circumstances and yet keep moving without missing a beat.

Oh well, he can build another one super easy. He has the formula for a Mercedes diesel powered rover. RIP OMRover.

I don't know. I know he was driving on standard tires and towing a small trailer loaded with fuel in the mountains, so I assume he had enough torque and the mileage wasn't really translatable because his mix was mostly transmission fluid (which would yield different numbers and was FREE).

I know that my OM617 moves the 300CD (which is a thousand pounds lighter, give or take) at a pretty good clip once the turbo spins up and Jarek had 37's on his. My 300CD gets about 28mpg on the highway so I assume the number was lower than that tho9ugh Jason had been messing with the fuel pump (and had two spares in the rover).
