Default Opinions on lockers,Type/Brand

2001 discovery 2

Headed down the rabbit hole of re gearing for larger tires.
Figured it would be senseless to not add lockers while I'm at it. Sooo.

Whats the preference thats been had with disco lockers?

1.Detroit in the rear and detroit trutrac up front?
2.Ashcroft air lockers front and rear?
3.Arb air lockers front and rear?
4.E lockers of some sort?

Will be adding HD axles/cv also at the same time.

They're all in nearly the same boat expense wise, going to grab pre built diffs/gears so i can just bolt em up.

Any opinions or ideas welcomed.
Only got one shot at this and wanna do it well.

True trac sends torque to the axle that has most torque, regardless of load/capacity. Lockers are even split. Lockers don't work without compressed air, truetrac works without.

Preference should relate to your preferred driving style.
Your options are not similar cost.

So IF cost if no object; then selectable lockers are a no brainer in my opinion.

I might be going the way of truetrac in the near future. Front and rear your looking at 3 k parts plus install and I heard it’s pretty dam good for offroad

I just got the true tracs front and rear. I havent had a chance to go off road yet to test them but for daily driving I do not notice them whatsoever. I will update after my trip to rausch creek on the 23rd

they have diminishing returns as your tire increases. Also, they only engage once things start spinning/slipping which to me if can be avoided is better than not. If going through the work and spending that much coin then not going with selectable lockers isn't worth it imo rather save and wait.

I think it depends on how often you wheel. Where you live. What kind of terrain.

For me I go real offroading a handful times a year (east coast) and to the beach almost every weekend in the summer. With cdl alone and some good AT tires the truck is just about unstoppable for what im doing. Funny thing is at the beach I see a ton of pickup trucks, jeeps, and other 4x4s get stuck. I've never been stuck out there (pre trutracs). I was just looking for slight bump in performance and a regear for the 33s.

You aren't wrong. If going up to 33s I would have probably gone with a rear air locker and foregone the trutracs but these trucks don't need a whole lot of extra help with a cdl and functioning TC.

I've heard truetracs stop working well above 32 or 33 inch tires. Although, it is going to be stronger than the stock diff, so it wouldn't hurt overall. I'd personally go full lockers if I'm taking it all apart. one and done.
