Default Opinions on pricing

Hello all. I am looking to purchase my first disco. But I was wanting some opinions on the price. 2004 Disco, 160k miles, overall in pretty good shape. No rust, no accidents, no large dents or scratches. Interior is worn but not torn up. Has a 3 inch lift already on it. Here’s the thing, the engine has slipped a liner so it’s toast. What would you guys be willing to pay for the truck with a bad motor? He wants $2800 for it which just seems way too high. Thoughts? TIA

KBB values this at 2,800, but in fair condition, which I would argue this truck is not with a slipped liner. Talk him down.

Long story short, definitely not worth $2800 by any means. Probably not even half of that considering slipped liner and mileage.

If it’s great otherwise, and you plan to swap the motor yourself, I’d be at $500. $600 max.

Speaking from personal experience (I bought a 2004 disco with a slipped liner and a bad block) I would't spend anymore than $1000 on it and know that you will need to spend $3000-6000 getting things back in shape including rebuilding the engine.

If you're not ready for this (as I was not), don't buy at any price. My 2 cents.

Buyer Value: 500$
Resell all parts value: 3000-5000$
Your time value:????

Do you want to drive it or work on it? If you want something to drive..walk away. If you want something to work on for the next 4 months and spend what cvhyatt quoted, then get it.

You could buy it a a parts truck.......for your running D2....

Thanks for the reply’s. That’s what I was thinking as well. I just got done talking to the guy and now he is offering the truck with a bad motor and a parts truck with a good block and needs head gaskets but still runs and sounds strong. I’m looking to take the green lifted one and make it a daily driver and to use it off road. The body of the other one I could turn into a pull behind camper for long excursions.
Would the addition of other motor and parts truck sweeten the deal?

Treat them as separate from a value standpoint - they are each worth about $500 - total value $1000. Not many buyers out there for Discos needing lots of work.

I’d come in at 200... pesos.
