Default Options to allow heated screen

Hi all,
I'm getting my 2003 TD5 fitted with a new screen next week.
I've asked for a heated screen(which it doesn't currently have).
I've added the relay, fuses and heated front screen switch to get it work, but i now need to buy a piece of kit to allow the heated screen to work in it's ECU.

What options do i have on device to allow this?
I have borrowed a ELM327 500k USB cable to try, but have no software to go with this, but is this actualyl going to work, or am i looking at investing in a Nanocom?

Cheers
Stuart

Yes, that or a Hawkeye.
And I would not recommend the Hawkeye, as it can Not program keys like a Nanocom can. I sent my Hawkeye back for that reason.
Since your 03 didn't have a heated windshield from the factory, it will need to be turned on in the ecu before it will work, even with the switch and relay.

I think you have to check the connectors infront of the cowl. Do you have them on both sides

And this
I don't know if those plugs are part of every factory harness or not.
Pop the hood, they will be easily visible on each side.
If not, I don't know where they go to in the harness, or where you would have to start.
A junkyard find and trace wires I guess.

Here are some of the basics re: the Factory wiring/circuit info.

Yep, 100% that is one of the connectors for the HFS. The Right side looks the same and is in the same location.

It looks like $hitPart makes a HFS wiring kit for the Defender. IDK if they have one for the DII or if this could be made to work > https://www.britpart.com/all-parts/da1401/

Thought I read hear before that no ECU/BCU programing required just as none needed for warm seats.

If it wasn't a factory option, it is not turned on in the ecu.
I have personally hooked up a Hawkeye to my 04.
It came factory with a heated windshield, but the cracked replacement is not. Switch is on the dash, and plugs are below windshield.
In the Hawkeye/ecu menu, the heated windshield was already turned on, but can be switched on or off at the push of a button.
There are several threads here confirming this.

It's all there, wires and all, just need someone to pop over now with a thingie to connect to the brains to enable the thing.
I don't want to invest £300 just yet in a Nanocom, i'll wait until i've settled with the TD5 first.

Cheers
for all the feedback!
Stuart
