Well that's some LUCK, good on you.
I know if I found "extra" wiring in a LR I'm sure it would be connected to The Car Bomb Option.

I'm guessing the "predetermined length of time" is a feature to make sure the heating elements don't melt the internal plastic layer, otherwise the BCU is not needed. I wonder if there is another way to accomplish the same thing? Maybe a small timer in the relay circuit with the relay wiring latching the closed via the timer... Wonder how long the HFS is programmed for in the BCU? Wonder if it is calculated based on the temperature sensors in the car...
