over heating help
I have a 2993 disco 2. had to replace the coolant resovoir after it sprung a leak. fixed that and it is still over heating. changed out thermostat with new one, still over heating. Not getting heat out of the vents and the the air is bled out of the lines. how do i tell if it is the water pump or radiator. after it runs for about 20 minutes the top hoses get rock hard. Have a strong feelinf the rad is plugged. Help Please!!
well the fact that you not getting anything out of the heater is strange .
you see there in no heater control valve, so hot water should be running threw your heater core no matter what. (if it isn't air bound).
you can get an idea of your radiators condition with a infer red thermometer.
is coolant returning to the recover tank? if so the pump must be doing something.
what t-stat did you used LR TD5, or mondail tstat?

I ordered both a rad and water pump and while waiting for the parts am staring to tear it down. Problem, i have watched the videos on how to remive the fan but itsnot working fir me the pully just keeps turning and yes i have left the belt in.

Usually you can remove a fan clutch with a large enough adjustable wrench and a few hammer whacks with belt still installed, additional tension to belt is sometimes required. Reinstall using several whacks. 1 7/16 open/combo wrench and dead-blow hammer has worked well for me.
......
I rented the pepboyz water pump holder and their fan clutch wrench. It took about 10 minutes to get the fan off. This includes figuring out it is not reverse threaded.
QUOTE=higgsy71;548729]The thermostat is a mondail. As far as water going back to the coolant tank, there is nothing coming back from the small hose on top of the radiator.

And as for checking that water is being recirculated by the water pump, you should not be looking for water returning from the small line running from radiator to the overflow tank. You are looking for water returning to the overflow tank from the larger bottom hose. You should see it bubbling up in the back corner of the tank

The fan and clutch is one piece on 03-04's NO.
These guys are right-on with their tips. There is more than 1 was to skin a cat, so try renting or buying the tool set that has 2 sets of wrenches: 1 to hold the pulley and the other to loosen the nut. You will find the set hiding in the specialty tools section of the auto parts store. It will be camouflaged behind some other miscellaneous tools. Or you can get one of these (see photo) to hold the pulley with the serp belt OFF, or with the serp belt ON, use socket and long ratchet or breaker bar on the tensioner pulley and apply more pressure to the belt whilst simultaneously loosening the clutch nut counter-clockwise . If you still can't do it, post an ad on Craigslist "gigs" and some trailer-hippy will gladly come over and do it in 10 seconds for about $20
