Not enough info to go on as you didn't provide a lot of detail. Get a code reader and check for codes then let us know what you find.

If you overheated you probably blew out a lot of coolant. Have you bled all of the air out?

Two possibilities:

1. Actually overheated. If it happened suddenly and fast, likely a stuck thermostat. If the thermostat is stuck the passenger side radiator hose will be relatively cool, radiator end tank to, top radiator hose a bit warmer but still relatively cool. Check the inline thermostat mod sticky at the top of the forum.

2. Did not actually overheat, bad sensor. If you have an IR gun you can check the heater hoses to see how hot they are. Buzz the engine to 1500-2500 while checking.

Did it boil over?

@Maxwell_land How fast does it boil over, it takes mine about 15 minutes under load to get to 183ish and that is thermostat closed. I had a stuck thermostat, took almost 20 minutes to hit over heat with an open cap, I was lucky.

Faster than that is likely a bigger issue

I have seen them take less than 5 minutes. Gone to drive trucks and can't even make it around the block. Almost always stuck thermostat if it overheats fast.

Also note that the temperature gauge on the dashboard doesn't tell you anything even when it does work. It basically has three positions: cold - running - too late.

How does a shop know if it’s a cracked block ? Or head gaskets
