Overflow Cap

Overflow Cap
I am sure this is possible - but what are the chances of the overflow cap going bad?
The rebuild of the Rover did not go as well as planned and when it started to overheat - the cap (which was tightly secured) was actually bubbling and blowing out steam and NOT the little overflow tube that usually does it.
I probably could spend a few bucks and order one - but I wanted to know if anyone else had problems with theirs?
I know that is probably not the reason the car is overheating - but it could be ONE of the reasons....
Thanks!

Yes the caps can go bad. They seal will not be as it needs to be to uphold the pressure needed in the system. REPLACE. while it might not be the root of the overheating it is a problem. One step at a time. But if it is really overheating I would track it down ASAP. overheating your engine could take you beyond the 5k range very quickly...
Oh I think the replacement caps are about 16 bucks.
