Default overheating converter.

After replacing left head gakset engine starts, has no power and left converter is overheating. Some kind of fuel rail problem?
or nor spark? It has 130k miles and no doubt needs a tune up but was running ok prior to the gasket fix. The converter glows red after a short test run I should add I had the cats tested and they are ok. Please help.

It sounds like you had a cat problem that manifested as or caused a gasket problem.

Then it's dumping a ton of fuel in there. Monitor fuel trims and O2 sensors. Red hot cats are cause by lots of unburned fuel in the exhaust. Maybe double check spark plug wires locations and fuel injector wires locations.

Thanks, i think that is very good advice. Since we had to take the left side apart there is a good chance that firing order or misfires are causing
this. Would one cylinder misfire still cause the glowing red or would it take two? The head gasket was cracked on cylinder five. It would tick after
warming up which I thought might be a loose cylinder sleeve but does not tick anymore after the head gasket was replaced.

My V8, when I got it was running so much stufff to the exhaust that the cats threw out their insides out the rear and the tip of the exhaust melted the bumper.
.. Multiple lobes on the camshaft were gone with the wind.

yeah, since we didn't have the cat problem before doing the head gasket replace, I think its some thing in the repair like misfiring or something like that.
We shall see. Thanka

I thought so too but the muffer shop says the cats are good to go. The heat from the head leak burned the plug wire so I think I'll just
do a tuneup. Wires and plugs. should I replace the coils as well?
