I searched the forum, but could not find a definitive answer. I just purchased on 2001 Disco SE7 w/ 138k miles. I noticed the power steering fluid is bubbling inside the resevoir. It is similar to watching water boil inside of a pot that's sitting on the stove. It's like the reservoir is jetted like a hot tub

Any ideas as to why this is happening? Is this normal? Could the pump be on its way out. Thanks, E

 

mine does that too, as does others that I have seen, I figured it was normal.

 

mine does something similar it looks like a whirlpool...alot of action in that tank...so think its normal.

Ya, mine does that too. Totally normal, I think just about every other vehicle I've ever owned has either had a black plastic resivour, or was a small car that didn't move so much fluid so the swirling fluid wasn't so obvious.

 

Stick your finger in there and see how hot it is. I don't think it's boiling; rather it is swirling around from the flow.

 

The fluid in the reservoir will most likely be swirling as previously mentioned. If it is truly bubbling, and looks foamy with air bubbles, then you have air in the system that needs to be bled, possibly caused by a leak.
