Default P03000 random misfire

***problem solved...read to end of thread****
I think the guy that I bought it from said that it was pulling up as a 0301 but now it’s showing up as 0300 on my Ultra Gauge...
I’m fixing to start going after this misfire on the 03 D2 with 151K miles that I picked up on last week. First thing I’m going to do is clean the MAF and TB.

Then I’m going to check and change the plugs. So I have 2 questions:
#1 Should I just change the the plugs and not the wires? If so which plugs do you guys recommend? Ive heard anything from comparable basic Champions to Bosch Platinum+4 ???
#2 Would it be better to just change the plugs and wires? If so, should I just get the plug/wire kit from AB?

From what I can find on Carfax service records, the last time the plugs were changed was 01/11/2012 at 95,039 miles.

Any other tips would be great.

Today i cleaned the MAF, TB and the Idle Air Control Valve. Put it all back together and it purred like a kitten. Service Engine Soon light was no longer on. The only code that was showing was the 1412 code, which I was going to tackle next. So everything was awesome! For about 5 mins into the test drive. The misfire returned and now it throwing the 0300 code and a new 1300 code. LOL!!
Any ideas?
I guess its on to plugs, wires and coil pack.

On the spark plug, I think I’m going with Platinum. Either the Bosch 6702 or the NGK (7092) BKR6EGP G-Power. Any one you guys like best?

OK, well I went with the NGK (7092) BKR6EGP G-Power plugs. They are pre gapped at .044 ..Should I run with that or gap them down just a bit to be in specs? I pulled one of the current plugs, its a NGK Iridium that looked in pretty decent shape but the gap looked wide.

Ive also ordered new 02 sensors and a new purge valve...
Going to try those and then move on to wires and coils if the misfire persists. Even if the problem is fixed, I Will probably do those anyway at some point soon.

Hey. I thought maybe somebody more knowledgeable would answer. I used the nkg platinum plugs but left the gap as is. It looked to me that the center wire was too fragile to handle gapping. All has been fine.

Thanks. Yeah to gap them you need a legit gap tool, which I do but I’d rather not if I don’t really need to.

Just a guess here but it could be in need of a carbon cleaning of the valves. Some use the seafoam but I don't. Try a jug of techron and see if that helps. Are your misfires all on one side? If so maybe it's a coil. That 1300 is saying that you are in danger of killing your cats.

I put some Lucas fuel system cleaner in it but I haven’t been able to run the truck since I put it in the tank. I may try BG or the techron. I don’t know where the misfires are it’s not calling them out individually anymore when I first got it it was showing a P0301 misfire on cylinder one now it’s that 0300 random misfire?

Ive got the 4 02 sensors ordered, SAI solenoid and purge valve ordered ( for a pending 1412) for good measure. Next step will be coils and wires and I got a quote from a shop to do that cause I just don’t have time to do that myself right now. We’ll see how these plugs and 02 sensors do.
