Was it a 100% Hyundai part in the OEM Hyundai packaging? I can't tell you how many of them I've installed with zero issues. With that being said I did notice a design change in the last one I bought vs the original Hyundai units I bought at first. I know for a fact the Dorman and no name Purge Control Valves are absolute garbage. Nothing against a Bosch Purge Control Valve especially since the price is normal now. It used to be the entire assembly for $$$. I've even got a D1 running the Hyundai purge control valve vs it's valve you can no longer purchase. Glad you got it taken care of though!

It was in a generic packaging labeled "OTUYAUTO ... made in P.R.C.".

Yeah that makes sense, the generic's are awful. I only use OEM Hyundai packaged units like this

Zero issues with the unit above, but I have seen plenty of the generic auto part store Dorman/ISUMO units fail for sure. It's been a while since I bought one, but the last time I got an OEM Hyundai unit out of CA for like 15.00 shipped online.

I was looking for a generic Hyundai. A Bosch generic was much easier to find. Paying $15 more is not a problem, gas is almost $5/gal in some places here.

My '03 occasionally throws P0441 code and then sometimes P030x codes (cylinder misfire) and will idle a bit rough when this occurs. This happens every couple of weeks, it's not a daily or immediate deal. In the past, I've replaced the gas cap, cleaned up the tank bung, PCV mod, done a lot of inspecting and checking of vacuum lines. The wires and coils are newer (for the P030x codes), kinda seems like a pesky vacuum issue somewhere, and occurs across all of the cylinders.

Also been watching this thread.

Over the last weekend, I cleaned the idle control valve and replaced the purge valve with the OEM Hyundai unit. I will say with two days of use it idles much better now and no codes. The idle control valve was really dirty. I kept the Bosch purge valve in case I get error codes with the Hyundai unit.

My IACV was pretty sticky as well. I also found an intake leak and that the K&N filter I put in was a big mistake (it didn't seal properly and covered the MAF with dust). I could have avoided the new EVAP pump and the vapor canister ($200). Although the vapor canister was damaged (fluids inside), very likely it didn't contribute to the error code. At least I fixed 3 other issues and learned how the EVAP system works.

I think prior to doing PCV mod my D2 had a lot of pressure building up. The plastic separator deal was solid with residue when I removed it. Valve covers wanted to leak, idle was a bit rough... those cleared up with the mod. Now the idle has really smoothed out with the idle control valve cleaning. No idea if the purge valve replacement contributed to better idle, but curious as to when my next P0441 shows

I had an air leak on my intake too. It was due to one of the clips failing from the lid of the airbox to the inlet. Sorted that and replaced a bad MAF. I dunked the D2 too deep briefly and found the intake leak as I draining water from the airbox and cleaning up. Luckily the D2 never staled and didn't hydrolock. I was able to drive it out of the water and onto dry area to sort things out. Also found the inlet tube from the fender well to the airbox was pretty rotten and replaced that with a silicone unit.

The vacuum sucks in air and vapors through the canister. The ECU sets the purge flow rate gradually. If the valve does not allow precise flow rate control or it behaves erratically, it will impact idling.

Many years ago I had an 02 D2 and it ran great, but every once in a while either under load or at idle (mostly happened at idle) the engine would be running fine then nearly go down to 400RPM oil light would flash and then it would wake back up and be fine for the rest of the trip. Never set a fault but continued to do it regardless of being hot/cold. Well it came back in to me & I already knew it's history. Took a drive and bingo it did it right up the street. I brought it back and let it just sit at idle for a good bit hoping for a code to trip or be pending. To my surprise I came out and it had actually quit!!! Only code was a pending P0441. Checked the Bosch unit and it clicked when running, but it apparently would seize up and cause all sorts of trouble. Swapped it with a spare Bosch I had laying around as a test unit and told em to drive it for a few days and let me know. Customer called a week later and said THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Whatever you did she's running flawless. I had em come back and let me install a brand new Hyundai unit, and that D2 never had that issue again. I took their original and stuck it into another D2 I was working on and the problem followed the Purge Control Valve. Dunno what it's problem was but it's been the only one I've ever seen do that!

Default P0441 error - how long to clear

I bench tested the "Hyundai", the solenoid opens and closes the valve properly and it holds vacuum when closed. BUT. The ECU controls the purge flow gradually by actuating the solenoid by a PWM signal of up to 30Hz. The Bosch is designed for that, but the cheapo can't handle it properly. It's not worth to mess around in order to save $10 or $15 (the Bosch was $30).
I’m trying to get my car inspected in NJ and the service engine light is on, throwing p0441. I just bought the Bosch purge valve, will replace this weekend. If this is in fact the cause of the error code, how long does it generally take after replacing it for the error code to resolve?
