Default P0501

Hey guys,
I have a pending P0501. No SES light. I searched the forum and only 6 threads came up. Half of them were simply replies listing codes. One was a thread about an 02 sensor that someone had mistyped as P0501. And finally, one of them was Jafir who swapped his ECU.

Should I just not worry about it until it throws the fault and is not just pending? My speedo works fine and the truck runs great. (been trouble free for quite a while now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!)

Any ideas?

501 is a vehicle speed sensor range/performance, VSS implausible, so no 02 or ECU issue.
You will probably loose your forward gears soon, how is it currently driving ?

It drives great. No issues. Although, the other day, for some reason the TC popped out of gear. Never happened before and hasn't happened since.

No, just the speed sensor, VSS, that controls the signal.
Are you noticing any thing difference while driving it? Because it is a pending fault is should be too noticiable yet but will get to the point of not letting you drive in any forward gears.

Hm. Well as of now, it drives great. Have not had any issues. How do I replace the sensor? Is it something you have to drop the transmission to do?

T/case issue was not related. So, how mechanical are YOU.
Might want to go to the Rave CD and looking in the ZF24 section under tranny repair and read up on the code and repair.

Hey Mike, so I had a look, but had a tough time identifying exactly what sensor it is. Is it the one I have circled in red in the pic?

That code says that the speed signal from the ABS computer doesn't match the signal from the transmission computer. It could either be the SLABS, the TCM, a sensor, or some piece of wire connecting them to each other. I'd look at live data from each of the computers and see if one of them looks goofy.

Thanks Jafir. I'll have a look and see what I can find.
