P1171 & P1174 Codes
#11
D1s have a film type MAFS, and are less likely to be damaged by a chemical, where as D2s have a hot wire, which is more accurate, but yeah, chemicals get on it, and then it gets hot, and the wire gets burnt... anyway, you need to get the car checked out, it could be something as simple as the wrong plugs were put in, or it could be a mass air sensor, the exhaust leak probably isnt it if its only on one side, i was just using that as an example of how many things can make your car run lean. that said, these codes are usually caused by a poor burn as opposed to it really being lean, (differenve between a p0171 and a p1171) so, what kind of plugs are they?

I am experiencing almost the exact same thing.
2001 DII with 102,000 miles.
Any additional help or thoughts will help me and the original poster of this thread.
Thanks

2001 DII with 102,000 miles.
- A week ago I had rough idle and SES light with code P0306 indicating a misfire in cylinder #6. The #6 plug looked fine but there was carbon build-up in the wire connection boot.
- I replaced the spark plugs with Champion 7070/RC11PYPB4 double platinum = exact same as OEM. Yesterday
- I replaced the OEM spark plug wires with Magnacor 8mm 80242 wires, Yesterday.
- The SES light went off, the misfire is gone and the engine sounds and drives fine.
- After 4 key sequences and 25 miles the SES light came back on with codes P1171 and P1174.
Any additional help or thoughts will help me and the original poster of this thread.
Thanks

Well it's been close to 2 months since my original post and I've cleared the codes several times and tried to remedy some things to no end. This past Thursday I had my shop replace the intake gasket since it wasn'st done at the time the wires were replaced. I had driven about 100 miles since Thursday and yesterday the SES light came back on again!!!! Same codes of P1171 and P1174....I'll be checking for any vacuum leaks Wednesday night when I can bring the truck in and put a smoke machine on it. ANY HELP WITH THESE CODES WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! I know I'm not the only to ever have them!!!

Correction.....just went and read the codes and now I'm ONLY getting a P1171 code. I'm actually a little happy because the replacing of the intake gasket took away the P1174 code. Do you still think it's a MAF sensor Mike? I'm praying for a vaccum leak when I run some smoke thru it. How can I check if it's a MAF issue? When I unplug while it's running, it sputters and then resumes.

I am in the same situation. Although you can clean the MAF, it is only a crutch to really fixing the problem. Lots of miles accumulate dirt and other things that even cleaning cannot fix. If you want to try cleaning the D2 MAF use these instructions:

At 140K miles I think it is time for a new sensor. If I get another 140K out of it (or my Rover) I will be satisfied. Over a lifetime these airflow sensors have millions of cubic feet of air pass over them. No matter how often the filter is changed or how good it is, dirt will eventually build up.
Just pick one of these up and call it a day:
