Default p1171 p1174 p0102...

cant lose these codes....

I replaced the MAF thinking that would do it..

.... ive been told these codes dont usually show up together...1171 and 1174 usually stored together but not in conjunction with 0102....

any suggestions?

Typically a P0102 is going to preempt the P1171 and P1174 codes (because they rely on the MAF working properly to be accurate, and the P0102 indicates it probably is not), but I'd guess that the P117x codes are being set first, and then the P0102 is getting set.

Based on what you said, a likely possibility is a bad connection to the MAF. Does the plug and harness look to be in good shape? Did you clean the plug when you replaced the MAF?

And generic P1171/4 advice is that you are running lean, probably because of a leak. Did you check for vacuum leaks, check and reseal the intake manifold/throttle body, and check/replace the upper to lower intake manifold gasket?

I've even seen a weak fuel pump (or clogged filter) throw the 1171/4 combo (not in a Rover, but I don't think that matters much). Check your fuel pressure at the rail.

Good advice Darylj, more than likely bad connection or vacuum leak. You can use a brake clean spray around the suspected leaking gasket while the vehicle is running, if the RPM's change you found the leak, be careful not to spray to much though. Also make sure the connecting pins are not being pushed out of the holder when making the connection or bent. Is the vehicle running rough at idle, while under load?

Wolf- i wouldn't say it runs rough at idle...but i do get the occasional rumble or change in rpms at idle...is that normal?

It's not "normal" but it's not unheard of. It may or may not be related to this. It usually indicates that its time for a tune up - bag plugs and wires are one of the most common reasons this happens. If it happens more when it is cold, dirty fue injectors or a sticky/weak ISV will do it, as will a non-gushing vacuum leak (one that comes and goes because it's not fully breached through the hose/gasket yet).

If you are having a loss of power or running rough I would definitely look into a tune up. Depends on the last time wires and plugs were changed, use a high quality platnium plug with 8mm wires. If performing a upper intake gasket replacement then change out your wires and plugs, visually inspect your coil pack for discoloration or cracks. I replaced my coil pack wires and plugs when I changed my upper intake gasket, lots of room to do when off. Check wiring while back there for any unusual signs of rubbing or corrosion where it plugs into the coil. Make sure it is snapped into place. A bad connection here can cause multiple problems with codes being thrown left and right. Good luck and keep us posted.
