All,

I have searched the board and found a couple of relevant posts, but none that gave me a satisfactory answer.

My '99 Disco II is currently running fine. I replaced the spark plugs a couple of months ago with Bosch Platinum IIs. These are my standby and have never failed me.

Recently, I have had a few wires fail. In a pinch, I took some spare wires I had from a cylinder head gasket replacement and put them in their place. I misrouted two of the wires at first. I then had to drive 25 miles on the vehicle. It was riding roughly, as you can imagine.

That 25 miles was to the auto parts store to get fresh wires. The wires have been properly routed. I have triple checked them for tightness. The Disco is running quite smoothly and with what feels like full power.

However, my SES light is still on. I have now driven about 150 miles since I replaced the wires and the light persists. Yesterday, I had the fault codes read and the codes are as follows:

P1300 - Multiple Misfire
P0304 - Cyl 4
P0307 - Cyl 7
P0300 - Multiple misfire, excess emissions
P0308 - Cyl 8

I don't know what to do. The engine is running fine. I cannot see how it would be the coil packs. The plugs are new and have worked fine. I suppose I could have gummed up a plug or two while driving at 5/8 power. How to explain the current smooth running though?

Have I just not waited long enough for the SES light to go out? The above are the same codes I had prior to replacing the wires so I am inclined to think that all is well and the light will go out soon. I just thought the light would go out after 60 miles, or so.

Thanks!
Jon

Have you had the faults cleared after changing the wires? If not clear the faults, then see if the faults come back. I'm guessing if everything is running fine, those were the codes left from your original problem.

You have to clear those codes, they won't go out by them selves.

Of course, right after I write this post the SES light extinguished at the next start. All is well. I suppose it just took about 160 miles worth of drive cycles. This seems far longer than it has ever taken for the SES light to extinguish and the fault codes to clear.

Regarding the codes not clearing themselves, they've always cleared for me. The only code I've ever had to clear was an ABS fault, after I had replaced with wheel speed sensor. This fault wasn't from the EMS.

I appreciate your input, though.

Thanks!
Jon
