Pads & Rotors help for 01 Disco II
I just found out from the service department that I need to replace front and rear pads and rotors. Before I always had the service department do it, but I think I would rather buy the parts and either do it myself or have a mechanic friend do it for me. I have never done any work on my car, but after looking around, doesn't seem too bad. Trying to save some money. The place I have been taking me D2 to lately is a Rover shop and have been much less expensive then the dealership. I called them up and told me that it would be close to $1000 for the job. Seems a little high and I can't imagine what the dealership would charge me.
After reading a couple threads about pads and rotor recommendations... seems like there are a couple of suggestions. One is getting them from Eurotek and found these on there site (http://www.eurotest.citymax.com/cata...71/3084264.htm). The other suggestion was for DAP (http://www.dap-inc.com/kits/brkkit.shtml#Heavy, part # PK167). Also there was a reference to Atlantic Pacific Automotive (http://www.apauto.com/default.asp) but seemed that you had to be a member.
Not sure if those pads/rotors are right for me and any guidance would greatly be appreciated. BTW, it's an 01' Disco II w/~ 113,000 and 99% city/highway driving.
Thanks in advance!
James

http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9542.cfm here's a full rebuild kit for your DII, $300.
Personally, I get almost everything I buy for my truck from this website. The work is a piece of cake, you can do the whole job in your garage in an hour or two, I did mine in September.

Try AB for brakes. Do you have a copy of the RAVE manual? That will give you the procedures for the job. You should replace the pads with genuine ones. Cheap pads create lots of brake dust and mess with the ABS sensors, which is a common cause for the 3 amigos.

Thanks Again,

Go to www.atlanticbritish.com and buy the brake kit that is in your price range. Everything that AB sells is good stuff.
They have several different levels of brake kits, good, better and best.
Lockheed makes the OEM brake pads.

Thanks everyone for your input
I'll be sure to order from AB. I noticed the kits say it has everything you need. Is there anything else you would suggest to change while changing the rotors and pads?

Hmm. You shouldn't really need to do much else, unless you just want to clean all the grim and crap that gets stuck in and around the wheels/wheel wells/etc.
James , Don't do what I did today to my son's '03 discovery. The rotor was seized on the hub, so after spraying it with with WD 40 and heating it , to rotate the rotor I had to put the transmission in neutral. I made the mistake of stepping on the brake which extended the piston in the caliper way out . I had to use a vise to get it retracted and still don't know if I've done any damage. Mike
