I take it back, I think I would choose that. A jack is easy to add and being the size it is you could get around pretty easily. I love it, I might would get one of my own if I found one for $400.

I'll keep an eye out for widows with toys!

That just sounds wrong.

Ok, couple things:

1) Stay out of the scottsdale land rover dealer. They are terrible, and great at selling "headlight fluid" to arcadia housewives. This forum and an ultragauge is really all you need.

2) fuel - its not that big a deal down there. Only mod to make is a heavy-duty inline filter with water-block (baldwin makes good ones), and carry 6-7 spares. At some point, you'll be gassing up on the side of the road with fuel from an old oil drum, and it'll have crud in it. Coffee filters in the funnel help too....

3) Inline therm mod is a good call - the chief problems in CA/SA are mud, dust, and other drivers. The roads can also kinda suck, so don't break an axle. However, the folks down there are freakin' GENIUS when it comes to "non-traditional fixes". You can get a t-case welded next to a chicken shack in the right town, and flagging down a trucker isn't hard.

I've only been as far south on the PAH as costa rica, but it's not a tough road. Bumpy, yeah, full of truckers, yeah, but overall, not anything worse than the I-10 through downtown PHX.

Give the truck a good once-over, and know that in a total pinch, you can buy a clapped out VW van to come home in for $500.00. Its been done before.
