Default PC says airbags...but i have coil springs

before i took my long trip this week i took the LR to a LR specialist to have him check my 3 amigos issue...he hooked it up to his laptop with various LR software installed...his laptop showed several weird things.
it had a huge list of fault codes to do with air suspension...mine has coil springs. he changed the setting to coils, but each time he retested it, it defaulted back to airbags.
also it showed that my gasoline engine was diesel...he wasn't able to change that.
any idea what is going on?...is it the car...his software...or his computing skills to blame?

Well it is very common to covert from air ride to coils when the SLS system fails.

As for the diesel thing...I dont know.

Possibly. Did your rover ever have rear air suspension? Was the vehicle's computer ever replaced. I know with RRs that one computer can be used for diesels petrols 4.0/4.6. Has a "police" mode too. They made the becm so it could be used on any RR with any mod, you have to program it for the correct use or "mode" you want it in though.

Often, when someone does a coil conversion, they don't spend the money to have the SLS system shut off thru the ECU, that is why your getting those warnings.
As for the diesel message, you can't have a diesel ECU in your truck, your gas engine wouldn't even start if you had the wrong ECU.

i was watching the PC while he was doing it...said diesel...he couldn't understand why either...the vehicle is an obvious lemon...i'm getting so tired of dealing with this...i think ill take it to a dealer, spend a fortune then get rid of it...seems like a big headache to me.
nice car but not worth this much downtime. i'm just widowed and had to relocate after being thrown outta my home by family. i dont need this

"Rovers are not for everyone"

for sure!...over complicated...i'll stick with the 70's-80's jags, i can sacrifice cargo space....computers need to be in a house not a car. thanks for the.....advice?.
In the jag forum we stick with a problem till it gets fixed...here i notice after 3 replies thats it!....i've been on this forum for over a year and each time i post i get an antagonizing answer from someone.
i guess it takes a "special" kinda person to love these oversized and overpriced cars.
Thanks to Discomike....the only user who really tried to help with more than 1 reply.

What kind of software did your friend use? I mean, maybe that is something to look at. I would have him scan another Disco of the same year if possible to rule out that his diagnosis is right/wrong. I have the hawkeye device and just cause I know how to use it doesnt mean I know what half the values and readings its giving me mean... which Honestly I don't..

I can't think of anything else. the SLS to Coil issue is what it is. IF YOU REALLY WANTED To...You can do some research and find out what wires to cut from the SLABS ECU to extinguish those lights. No big deal. The next buyer shouldn't want to revert to SLS so don't think twice about it. You may be able to figure out what inputs the SLABS ECU receives so that it won't put out any SLS related codes anymore. Or take it else where to have it switched. The fact that your friends pc can't switch it may tell you the problem lies with him/his tool.

Don't give up hope. Spike wasn't meaning that rovers aren't for you... all he meant is that IF you want the Discovery, you should WANT to get things taken care of. If you don't, then you don't want the rover, meaning it isn't for you. So don't take it the wrong way. do you have the RAVE CD? have you read through it? Heck I wouldnt care if I was getting SLS codes or that some guys pc read my Disco is a diesel,.... obviously its not... and the only reason to properly switch from SLS to coils in the ecu is to prevent the trouble codes from forming and preventing the air compressor from constantly kicking in trying to adjust the height. That can kill ur battery. THATS IT. Let us know what you do...

Are you happy with it otherwise? any other issues? if so post a new thread and lets work on it....

Well some of us have a job, families and lives outside of the forum and we dont just sit here waiting with baited breath.
You have a question and my son wants to play trains, guess who wins...
Like it or dont you were ready to set this truck on fire with your first thread.
You stick with your under priced Jag and and I will stick with my never once left me stranded in over 2.5 years and 35,000 miles over priced brick.

And yes, I am special, thats why I get to ride the short bus.

Best reply in the forum spike! That was great. My nephew likes Thomas. I try to play trucks with him--for him it is a toss-up.
