PCV Mod / Issue. 04 D2
I am attempting the PCV mod on my 2004 Discovery.
I pulled the hose connecting the valve cover to the intake manifold off and saw that I have the 2003/2004 style tube in the valve cover.
I tried to get the small brass cap with the small hole in it off of the tube and the whole tube came out.
I drilled out the plastic air oil separator and expanded the hole.
I replaced the metal tube (with the cap with hole) in the valve cover and tried to seat it in with a screw driver and hammer. I thought it was all good so I attached the hose and hose clamp.
Unfortunately even with just a small amount of force, I was able to life the tube out by the hose and it does not seem secure enough to me.
Question: Is that tube just pressed in there or is there some sort of backing plate that has come disconnected inside the valve cover. Obviously this would be bad if there as something loose on the engine side of the VC.
Question: If it is just pressed in there, do you have any tips for getting it back in there securely?

I may have bent it a little when trying to pull it out. Does that brass cap come off? The one with the little hole in it?
If it is bent too much, i don't suppose its easy to find a replacement? Google doesn't come up with much.

It's literally just a piece of steel tubing. Get it at any hardware store. The outside diameter is important so that it press-fits into the rocker cover, but the inner diameter isn't critical.
Where the solid end is you can just use a dremel or a hacksaw and cut it off at the little seam or drill it out. You just want more flow vs the tiny OEM hole. In your situation with a larger drilled hole & then cap still in place I'd insert that end into the valve cover first as it is much stronger vs the hollow other end. That way it should go back in snug. You can tap it into place until it hits the bottom of the hole where there is lip preventing it from going into the valve cover.

@Jason_B I have one but it is from a 4.0 liter so it is wide open, it will take me a few days to work it loose heat and penetrating oil and piece of doweling. I figure 5 bucks and it should fit in small padded envelope so maybe a $1.00 - $1.50. I will ship with a wood dowel inside for protection if you are interested.

Is it concerning that might came out relatively easy and won't go stay in. Its a bit odd if you expect yours to be pretty hard to remove.
