picking up my first Land Rover
So Monday, i'll be picking up a 1999 Disco II with lowwwwwww miles. I'm excited. I still get to check it out one last time before i commit. What i'm looking for from all of you are some of the things i should look for to make sure this is a quality vehicle. I'm confident in picking out a nice car, but i'm new to the discoverys, so any helpful insights to their quirks would be great.
thanks!
thanks!
Hi Dave
I just bought my first Disco II. (1999) Its a little rough but I am happy. I think I am going to need a water pump and I have some warning lights to deal with. We got it to go to the beach so I am not too concerned about the little things.

awesome! this one looks and drives brand new. the guy babied it. and its gonna be my only vehicle soon once the vw is turned in on the lease, so i hope i'm not getting myself into a mess here!
Just start going through and changing fluids, plugs and wires, use premium gas.
If you change all the fluids to full synthetic it will help MPG and keep it running like new forever.
Get the coolant flushed too.
Have fun with your new Disco!

thanks! the guy has all the paperwork on it, all services, etc. he just had most of that done not too long ago, so i guess i'm ahead of the game. how about any little quirks that i might expect? every vehicle has them!!
Print this and stick it in the glove box.

EDIT-everytime the battery is disconnected the HVAC readout will revert to celsius.

Disco Dave... (or is it Disco Stu? Damn I always meant to use that avatar and change my name). If you took it for a long ride, it feels, looks and sounds goodand it had no check engine lights showing, you should be way ahead of the game. You should replace the ujoints in the front driveshaft with greasable ones if it has not already been done, they go bad andunexpectedlytake out your tranny. Do a search here for 'front driveshaft' and '60k service' and expect to do both.
i was surprised no one had it! and thanks to both of you for the useful info. this has been the best auto forum so far...look forward to being on here for awhile!!
