I am looking for a second hand Land Rover Discovery and would like to hear from the members of the forum which years and models that I should look for, and what I should look out for before I decide to buy.

I am based in Sweden, so I will most likely get one that is sold here.

If you want to use it for off-roading get an 04, or 99-01. Most 03’s had oil pump issues. 02-03 have no transfer case CDL. They all have headgasket issues, so plan on that unless it’s already been done. Early indicators will be “random misfire” code from the driver side cylinder bank, and coolant leaking on the ground coupled with mild overheating. They all have had “three amigo” lights on the dash and the fix can vary. Most will have a bad crank sensor around 100k-180k. All will need the front driveshaft replaced around 100k. Most 99-01 will have had emissions systems codes above 100k-150k. I wouldn’t recommend owning one unless youre a doit-yourselfer, have a good/mechanic friend, or have a particular fondness for the body style/ heritage that makes it worth it. Other than that they are solid trucks, I love my D2.

Diesel and gas. Have a Diesel engine in mind.

my comment pertains to Gasoline only, TD5s won’t have the motor issues discussed. I’d love to get my hands on a diesel. The gasoline engines are the achillies heel of all US spec rovers.
