2003 Land Rover discovery 2 v8. Oil spot under front driver side. See pictures. Please help me identify what may be leaking. It’s seems to be part of the steering system? I’m a noob sorry. Any help would be great. Thanks
No some times it hard to find the leak, I was chasing a leak lept wiping off the oil, finaly found it iwas coming out of my battery box?????, turn out it was oil from my hydrualic jack, so I refiled it and put id bacl rubber gromit side up no more leak
It appears to be leaking from the gear box. I know my pictures aren’t great but does that sound about right. It’s dry above the oily area and the gear box has the hydraulic power steering fluid in it… can I connect the dots here?
By any coincidence, did you turn the steering wheel with engine off? I get the same leak when I do that. Otherwise the area is just wet, loss is negligible (takes years to go from max to min mark).

I don’t think I did that since it’s not easy to do. The PS reservoir was at min level. And I refilled with what I had on the shelf. I’ll keep watching it to see but there’s a brown splatter stain under that spot.
I have pretty serious power steering leak, I have tried the cleaning and watching method, could not really discren the leak this way. Would the flourescent leak detection kit work in power steering fluid?
I am hoping it is only the high pressure hose, replaced the pump not too long ago, and not the rack. Which would be a much bigger PITA.
