i guess my wife did NOT pass that info on to me - oops. and they cant be that tough to destroy. hell i did it on accident. but then again i am the guy who once broke a bullet-proof army helmet with IT ON MY HEAD! so i may not be the easiest of people on equipment...
oh well. time to call the tow truck guy.

if it is the tranny what is the best way to go about fixing it? rebuild it or replace it?

this sounds expensive...

btw can i blame the wife for this ?

Yes you can blame the wife, thats what husbands do.
As for repair/replace...I dont know what will be cheaper.

Call around to junk yards and see if they have any DII's laying around.
It does not have to be your same year just another DII transmission but NOT a 2003 or 2004 as they are to long by 15mm.
Look on Craigs list and e-bay too.
But dont buy anything until you hear back from the shop.

The tourqe convertor will be fine, you are looking for a transmission.
When the clutchs wear out it will not shift, will cause extra strain on the engine and do all kinds of weird stuff.
The only reason your transmission would trow a trouble code is if it wear a electronic issue, the clutches are not electronic, they are mechanincal therefore they will not throw a trouble code.
I know that this is getting expensive, but you didnt listen to me the first time and started spending good money chasing a Red Herring.
Like I said, I go through 2 tannys a year in my FedEx van, electronic transmissions just like your truck has, and when they go bad no check engine light, just a van that wont move very fast if at all.

No I do not know the shop hours to R/R a LR tranny.
I wont spend any more than $50 on a tranny.
For my van (Ford) to take it out and stick the rebuilt back in is $500 and takes a day.
Then they take the bad one and rebuild it in their spare time, stick it on a shelf until I need it.
