Default pop rivets in rear door hinge replacement

So I have a bent hing in the rear door. Its the bottom one. It shuts and locks work but its hard to open and close because of it. I got a replacement but there are two pop rivets along with the bolts. Do the pop rivets provide support? I can drill those pop rivets out but what do you guys think when it goes back together?

My bottom hinge was bent as well and I replaced it without putting new rivets back in. 1 year later and I haven't lost my door yet but YMMV. To be honest my door didn't open any easier after the hinge replacement so if that's what you're trying to solve maybe leave it? The rear hatch is really heavy, esp with the spare on! I had to support it while my wife bolted the hinge in.

Make sure to clean and lube the pin with the circlip on the bracket at the bottom of the door.

Water intrusion through the top of the rear gate is a common issue even with good hinges.

I had that leak and saw that someone here recommended using poly foam caulk sealer behind the rear gate seal

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Frost-Kin...&wl13=&veh=sem

One edge of the seal, toward the outside of the truck, pulls up, you can insert this product underneath it and then push the seal back in place over it.

This addresses the aging seal no longer having enough spring in the rubber to firmly do its job.

It did the job well, so I then used the same product behind the door seals at the front and top and reduced some wind noise too!

Great idea to help reduce wind noise! Mine has a little whistle at speed.

Thanks, will look into that. Although mine still needs replaced.
You can see the opening and it actually contacts and scratches the body at the bottom because it is out. I like the idea of the addes protection however.

The part I think you're looking for is AFU1350, the monobolt 1/4 inch. It can be seen as #5 in the diagram below. The part is available at Rovers North for a few bucks. You should give them a call and confirm that it's the rivet you're looking for.

I didn't bother with the pop rivet, but I also no longer have a tire on the door

thanks Paul. Anybody looking at this, Paul is great. He is a parter and he has gotten me out of many jams with his parts. Always fair in his pricing and super fast. In fact the hinge I am putting on came from him. His info is in my tag line. Just now getting around to put it on.
