Default Possibly trading 1998 D1 for 2000 D2

Hey all,

I have a 1998 D1 SLE with the 7 passenger seats, rear air, dual sunroofs etc (loaded up) but is not in the best of shape. Dont get me wrong, it runs great and has had heads done about 20k miles ago but its not super nice.

Today I looked at a 2000 D2 that was a base model, no 7 seat option, no sunroofs, no rear air but it is very slick and the color is amazing. It had the original Keyfob, the original mats and new rubber all the way around.

What do you guys think the difference in value is?

straight trade.

Be careful you might get into one of those d1 vs d2 discussions.

It's hard to say without seeing them and knowing the history. Where I live there is a 99 that's been on a used car dealers lot for MONTHS and it's now down to $2900..... but it needs work, like SLS and stuff. I'm tempted to go and offer $2000 cash.... but it's hard to justify owning a 3rd car....

If you can't obtain the history on the 2000 DII then I might be skeptical. Your 98 has a history that you can verify, I would way out the pros and cons of both vehicles. Your 98 may not be so pretty but what would it take to make her shine again? The 2000 may be pretty but what will it take in repairs down the road. In my opinion the Discovery series is the best looking out of them all. Either way you go good luck and get a inspection on the 2000 DII first. I would do a even trade since you are giving up a bunch of options.

I wouldn't trade it for a base model D2, maybe an SE if it had dual sunroofs and all that stuff.

What's worn out with the D1? Would you consider repainting it? The consensus seems to be that the D1 is a more reliable truck.

Personally I would like to not have all the options like the D2 you have found. No sunroofs means no leaks up top to fix later. Plus if you like the color and it is in good shape outside you can save the $1000 you would have to spend getting you D1 painted to make it nice again. If you can trade for not much money I'd do it. Worst case scenario you do head gaskets and other maint eventually after you purchase the D2, and if you can do it yourself you are only talking about a grand in parts...

All are very good points. I really appreciate the feedback guys and the guy called me today asking if I was interested to trade. I told him I wanted to talk to the PO (the guy before the carlot it is on) and we would discuss it more this week. I am not convinced I am interested but I dont want to shut him down until I am sure.

thanks again all!
