i was told it was a one owner that was well-kept and serviced at Land Rover dealership. Mileage is a little higher than what wanted...probably could talk him down to 7k?

 

from my experience I would check:
the transmission fluid, lift the dip stick, if it's dark and smells burnt, walk away
Check ALL electrical equipment,lol. I didn't and was pleasantly surprised.
I'd ask to see documentation of it being serviced at the dealership.

I have a disco I, so i don't know about the whole Replacing the u-joints, or the three amigos, i guess do a search to find out about those things.

Ya 2000-2500 to high!!
Don'T forget you will also be spending another $500 or more in replacing all the oil, front drive shaft and what ever Else you end up finding!
But if it has a warranty and you have some cash to drop then go for it! Burgundy though I never stray from three colors Black,Silver and Red but that's just me!

Yes the 2003 model year had the oil pump problem. Search to forum to find the effected VIN range. With 80K on the ticker the vehicle in question should be okay.

 

First, call a dealer have check to see if this vehicle falls within the vin range for the badoil pump/engine.
What service contract comes with it and for how long.
If it is not one of the bad engines and it comes with a good warranty, $7000 is about right at that mileage as long as you are aware that it does not have a locking t/case and is less capable off road on hard trails.
What are you wanting to use this truck for?

 

DII's do NOT have a dip stick for the transmission.
Take the VIN# to the dealer and have them look up its service records.
It is well worth it to pay them $100 and have them look the truck over stem to stern.
If the seller has a problem with you taking it to a shop to get looked at then walk away.

 

That price is a bit high as there is currently a glut of Disco's on the market. Folks who went through gas price sticker shock last summer saw the value on their disco's fall through the floor. Many ended up keeping them because they didn't want to accept such a loss. NOW many of those same folks are trying to unload their trucks since gas prices are reasonable, and people aren't as hyper-concerned ; ergo the glut. Gas prices will undoubtedly be headed back up again this summer, and prices will again start to tank. Personally, I'd either look for a disco that's $2000 less, or wait til summer when MOST of em will be $2000 less.

 

Most independent shops will look that rover over for free. It's an absolute must, or you could inherit 3k worth of leaks, squeeks and failing parts to replace.
