Power Inverters

RE: Power Inverters
Hi Mike!
Yeah, you know just leave it in the car for plugging in some gadgets (laptop, cellphones etc.)
Just bought it at computer store. I suddenly thought that maybe Rovers "act" differently to those things.
I'm glad you never had problems with it, so I guess it's ok.
Can I use it thought without turning on the engine? You know too save diesel
Thanks.

I have one as well and i have never had any problems either. very convenient. i think it depends on what you are running off of it if you can use it without the engine running. i usually only use it to charge my phone and sometimes my laptop when the engine isn't running. but that's just me.

RE: Power Inverters
It says in the manual that it works for "negatively charged" vehicles.
I have no idea what that means. All I know is that it works in Japanese made cars, so it made me wonder if Rovers are any different.
Anyway, I tried it and it works just fine
Power inverters are good to have in any cars, car companies should put those as an option when you buy a car.
Cheers

Ok, I get why you were asking now.
I also have no idea of what negativly charged cars means.
As far as I know a cig lighter socket is a cig lighter socket.
I put one in my ex wifes Mazda MPV (when we were married) in the rear by the tire jack and tools, screwed it to the wall, plugged it in and ran a household extention cord to the kids DVD player/PS2, etc.
When we were not using it I removed teh access panel and put the extention cord in the storage compartment, out of sight out of mind until you needed it again.
To bad Disco's dont have a 12v socket in the cargo area.

All it takes is a little wiring and a lighter jack to have 12 volt power in the cargo area. Don't know how you are with wiring but it would probably take no more than an hour to do with hiding the wires and all. Could come directly from the battery for constant power or tap a circuit that is switched with the ignition. If you use a switched circuit I would recommend putting a relay in so the main power is still directly from the battery but is turned on and off with the ignition. I don't care for things that can be left on and run down my battery if I'm not smart enough to unplug or shut it off.
