power steering pipe replacement question

power steering pipe replacement question
While examining the damage done to my D2 by my fan (see here https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...me-help-68530/), I discovered a bent pipe on the power steering unit. See pic below.
I have a new pipe on order. Has anybody changed this pipe? I'm guessing once I loosen the nuts, power steering fluid will leak out. Can I simply put in the new pipe and top the reservoir with whatever fluid is needed, or is it more complicated than that? Meaning is there a need to bleed the system somehow?
Thanks!

Well I changed this pipe out today with a new part. What a total PITA!!! Every job on the discovery ends up taking about 3x the amount of time it should because:
A) rusted bolts take forever to remove
B) everything is strategically placed by landrover to make it as difficult as possible to access things.
My (B) moment involved trying to fit the new pipe back into place with the chassis corner reinforcement in the way and some stupid lip on the edge of the power steering unit. It was like solving a rubiks cube puzzle.
However in the end I was successful. The only noticeable difference is that this noise that occurred at full lock is gone. Other than that the steering feels exactly the same.

In my opinion you should bleed the system after working on it. You also should bleed the system to get all the old dirty fluid out if you haven't changed it in a while.
1)Connect a hose to the bleed nipple and run it down to a catch container.
2)Have someone start the car and let it warm up.
3)Take a small open end wrench (I believe it's 10mm) and Carefully stick your arm down in between the fan and the air intake tube.
4) Have the person in the car start turning the steering wheel all the way to one side and crack open the bleeder as they are turning.
5) once they reach full lock tighten it back up.
6) have them start moving the wheel in the other direction and at the half way point crack the bleeder again. Once they reach full lock tighten it back up
7) Refill the PS fluid to the max line and repeat the process 2 or 3 more times at least. The more you bleed the more old fluid you get out.
(don't hold the wheel at full lock for longer than 10 seconds)

Thanks Jared. I had bled the system when I first got the car per the instructions above and replaced all the fluid. This was 1 year ago. Today when I took off the old pipe, a lot of fluid emptied out again. I had to put a full bottle back in the system to get the level correct. So I think I'm set in terms of it just being new, clean fluid.
