Default Power Steering/ Serpintine Belt

My wife was driving our 99 Disco II and the power steering went out, she made it home only a couple of miles. When she pulled upI noticed a noiseunder thehood. I looked under the hood and noticed the serpintine belt was still on but shredding and it had been hitting the underside of the hood. I replaced the belt fitted it on correctly and everything, then added power steering fluid( it was a little low). Started it up and it was great for about 20 seconds, until I noticed the belt was slipping off.Checkedthe belt- it istheright one and put on correctly again.Could the power steering pump be out and causing the belt to slip? Please help!

Ok, I looked at the belt again and I think I found the problem. The steering pulley is just slightly out of line with the rest. I got the belt off fine. Now, do I need to buy a new pulley or just tighten it or what? If so, how?

PDX, I went down the same road with my son's 99 Disco II. His threw the belt after the shaft/pulley went out of alignment. The shaft of the power steering is probably "walking" its way out of the pump. Look for a new or used pump... Be Safe, Mark V.

Thanks so much for the help Mike! I went to see if I could tighten the pulley, but what size allen wrench do I need to hold the center? It looks very small, but I have not fit it yet.

Yes Chief, I believe it is "walking" itself out. Does this always mean thepump is bad, or could it just be loose?

I would try to tighten it first. I dont know what size nut it is, you may just have to trial and error to find the right size.

Tried every freakin allen wrench I have and none fit! Getting it towed to put a used power steering pump in. They said it would be $300. Does that sound about right?
