Default Power steering still whinning after new pump and bleed

Heyo,

So I’ve been battling with the power steering for weeks now. Put in a rebuilt pump after noticing bad leak. Then performed flush based on sticky. Still whinned.

Then this week I received a replacement pump thinking the initial was a dud. Popped it in, no flush this time, and whinning is even worse then the last pump.

I primed both pumps. First by manually putting fluid down the hose and cranking the pully before starting engine and filling the rest of the reservoir. The second pump I just followed AB Academy video starting for a couple seconds and filling up the rest.

Ive bleed multiple times but pump is still whinning at idle and especially bad a full locks.

I just read in RAVE this morning of a caution note stating to NOT hold full locks for longer than 10 seconds, which I’m sure I did due to all the figure 8s I was pulling trying to flush (again just following the sticky).

Have I f*cked up something else in power steering system due to holding full locks over and over? Does it need time to break in?(noticed this pump was binding a bit at install). More bleeding?

Using Pentosin 11s fluid along with Lucas conditioners. A-1 Cardone pump. New reservoir hose. Don’t notice any current leaks.

Oh and another symptom is when at idle the pump is working (fluid churning). When I pull the tube out to check if fluid is bleeding from steering box when wheel is locked full left the fluid goes from normal flow to a more powerful flow. But when I turn full lock right the fluid completely chokes up to a dribble...

also, I do have assisted power no problem. Maybe an occasional hiccup when turning left sometimes. It binds for a split sec then releases. Which is weird becasue that’s the direction the fluid is flowing best.

I would try bleeding at the steering gear again.

are you sure the noise is coming from the pump?

pretty positive. I know other things would whine at idle but what else would when turning?

Pulley on backwards?

also as crazy as it may sound, I’ve had a PS reservoir with a clogged screen make noise in the pump.

pulley on forward. Good call though. And the screen looked pretty clear to me but buying a new reservoir can’t hurt. maybe that’ll do it.

X1 ............... agreed, try using an engineer's stethoscope on the pump to ensure it is the pump. It could be the ACE pump, alternator, fan bearing, idler etc that's whining.

TIP: never even hold the steering on full lock even for a second it kills pumps and racks, there's no good reason to either.

X1 ................ agreed, try emptying the reservoir then remove it and clean/wash it out with brake cleaner fluid then use an airline to blow the crud off of the filter screen from the outside but be careful not to damage the filter screen with too powerful an airline.

would bad racks cause pump to whine? Or just loose power assist? Trying to rule things out. I’ll try the stethoscope route.

I did notice that with this pump on the truck now, one corner of the triangular face that the pully bolts too is rounded causing the pulley to not seat flat against the triangles face. I torqued each bolt down accordingly but the pulley is on slightly crooked. Could this be the cause?
