Pre-off-road trip and long distance trip question
I have a '97Disco(completely STOCK):
My questions are:
1) How deep can she wade in the wateR? What gear does she need to be in? Danger point?
2) When I'm trying to go up so steep hills, do I NEED to put her into low gear? or waht gear should I be in?
3)I'm planning to drive her from VA to FL. Any inspections I need to do before taking the trip??
4) Does nayone know exactly if the disco REALLY NEEDS PREMIUM??

RE: Pre-off-road trip and long distance trip question
1) If you are new to off roading, don't go through any water deeper than the mid point on the hubs. If you wouldn't wade through it, don't drive through it. Unless you really know how to navigate a water crossing, don't risk it.
2) Depends on the hill. Discos are heavy rigs. I go into Low any time I will be doing prolonged long, steep climbs or if the steep climb offers a rough surface. In short....you'll know, and if you don't know....you might be in over your head.
3) I'll bow out of that question as I'm sure more experience Disco owners will chime in. I have a favorite mechanic who helps me with the nuts and bolts.
4) YES. Not a maybe or a sometimes.....YES.

newBrover is right.
2) When I'm trying to go up so steep hills, do I NEED to put her into low gear? or waht gear should I be in?
I would put it in low range locked.
3)I'm planning to drive her from VA to FL. Any inspections I need to do before taking the trip??
If all your normal services are up to date (check owners manual) the oil change, air filter
and maybe the fuel filter. You will know if your wipers are good and other fluids are full.
4) Does nayone know exactly if the disco REALLY NEEDS PREMIUM??
newBrover is on the money! Always, you can not see the damage you are doing until the motor rebuild.
