Default pre purchase question

hi ive been out of the land rover world for a few years, but im looking to get back in. im currently looking at a 2004 land rover discovery SE with 72000 miles for $8000. first off is that a decent price? and secondly what should i be concerned with? is there any future expected maintenance or known problems?
any advice would be great!
thanks

Do a search for my thread "what to look for when buying a Discovery"

Do your research on the price.

Seems to be a good price, so long as there aren't any major skeletons lurking in the closet!

thanks for the help. i hope this disco runs as good as my last. i had a 2000 land rover and i wish i never sold it. before i buy the 2004 i was thinking about having the dealership run the vin to see if all of the scheduled maintanence was done. does anyone know if i can have this done at any dealership or does it have to be at a land rover dealership. i have a friend who works at a jeep dealership and he will do it for free. also, what is the recommended synthetic oil and how do discos respond to seafoam?

Do a Carfax report. If the report is good, the car can also qualify for some warranties (lemon stuff). I ran one for the last one I bought and it showed me all maintenance (summaries) with the dealership it was done at. I then called them and asked. They were very willing to tell me what was done.

I will be running Magnecore 8mm and Bosch Platinum 4+ on both of mine. The '01, which I just bought, will hopefully be upgraded by tomorrow.

You are most likely looking at a ttruck that may not have had the 60K, major service, done.
Pull a spark plug and see how warn it is.
If it hasn't been done then you will need to do the 60K along with plug wires and a front drive shaft rebuild to correct the u-joint issue.
