Default precision #617-ball kit

looking at rock auto parts online about the centering ball kit for my 2001 disco....My vehicle is not listed as applicable to this part on their website...I called there and they just read me the applicable vehicles for this part. Is this the correct part for my front driveshaft??????

Can you please post the URL for the kit.

unimoged,

No kit, you have to purchase the parts separately

1) 2 Precision #344 grease-able u-joints
2) 1 Precision #617 centering ball kit

On Rockauto.com, Do a part number search. Select Precision as the manufacturer and 617/344 as the part #....

Also, that's just for the double cardon side only(the infamous problem area). If, by chance, you want to change all the u-joints on the front driveshaft, while it is off, you need a third #344 for the other end.

PalmettoDisco...is the other side non-grease-able as well? I just replaced the double cardon side and centering ball at my local indie rover shop a month ago...I never even thought about the other side of the front drive shaft and just assumed it was greasable as well...when I originaly mentioned to my mechanic that I wanted it replaced, he knew exaclty what I was talking about and never mentioned replacing the other side...[sm=wtf.gif]

It is good to replace both the other 2 u-joints especially if you have some long miles on your truck, also check and replace the rotoflex if needed and grease both flex shafts.

Thanks Disco Mike...the truck has 49K on it (2001)...I guess my mechanic will be happy...better to be safe than sorry

A new u-joint is going to be better than a 50,000 mile used one (even properly maintained). A simple u-joint is easy and cheap to replace (relative to the double cardon). It might not be necessary but since you already have the driveshaft off, it's something to consider.
