2001 Discovery. When engine is cold/cool starts fine, idles fine, put into drive give it gas and barely any power, can feel pressure building when I give full throttle and then pop, pop, feels like backfire but close to the engine. I can feather the pedal or lightly apply gas and it will start to go but then it starts to lose power and it starts all over with pop. I live at the bottom of a hill and I can barely make it up without letting the truck warm up for 20-30 minutes. If I do not let it get hot, I have to pull over as I have no go. Once it is hot it drives great, no hesitation. I am at a loss and just put 800 into the girl and am not prepared to do the pull, replace, try again routine lol. please help.

I don't have access to a reader right now, I can grab it on Mon. If your willing to throw up a few possibilities I would be greatful. I just replaced waterpump, fan, fan clutch, thermostat, tensioner, serp belt, was really looking forward to this running better, lol murphys law. I have owned it for a year and it has always been a slug, just assumed it was a slow truck, but now it is just terrible. If I can get this fixed up, who knows it may surprise me lol. One more for ya, I installed the new fan clutch, later found out it was a Extra Duty/Heavy Duty version and it now sounds like a 747 powering up when I drive, not sure if this is right? I so wish I knew **** about this truck in general, Like driving one that is 100% working so I had a base to work from. If anyone is ever in Ontario, close to lake Huron let me know, I will buy coffee and you can take me for a tour of a real working Disco.

 

100% guess without codes.....but ii will take a stab at it. a vacuum leak (maybe injector) that is worse when cold and expansion from engine heat makes it not as bad when warm......just a guess

 

Do you hear any rattling from under the truck once it gets warm? And I am doing as Dusty, throwing wild guesses.
