Default Pressure test kit for block.

I'm going to be ripping out a 2004 4.6 block this weekend with a slightly slipped liner. I want to test the block for any leaks/cracks before i put any $$ into the rebuild of this block.

Does someone sell a kit for the pressure test? I have a compressor, I just need the block plates and air fitting.

Thanks.

This is what you need to test the engine: block.tester - Engine Block Leak Tester

This is how to test it:

Yeah, I gave them a call earlier.

It cost $250. It costs $250 to even RENT it. Just when you ship it back they give you $60 back.

That's a lot of cheese for something I'll use once.

I knew it was $250, but I didn't know you could rent it. Renting it would be a good idea if they gave you almost all of your money back. They said they would only refund $60 of the $250?? That is a rip-off.
I'll just throw this out there. If you decide to buy it, I will buy it off you when you are finished for half the price. You could always try and rent it out to the guys on here and make a few bucks, or wait until someone else on here starts asking around for one and try and sell it. I would bet you would get someone to buy it if you post it on here. I already gave you your first offer at $125.

If you have an old water pump laying around you can modify it and then all you need are 8- 1 inch head bolts and 4 blocking plates. Then drill a hole in one of the plates and thread the hole and install a schrader valve. You could probably buy a used water pump off ebay for cheap and build yourself a kit for $60 total.

I'm going to try and build one myself this weekend.

If it doesn't work, I'll by this kit and sell it on the flip side.

I have one I made to use in conjunction with water and air. You have to remove the block drain plug and screw in a garden hose adapter, open a valve on the top plate to bleed it, close the valve, then open the air valve on the other plate. It also has block off plates for the water pump openings.

I'll lend it to you if you pay shipping both ways and make a deposit for the value of the parts and the time it took me to make it. I'll return the full deposit when I get it back.

I built a kit last weekend. I took some pictures and will try to post a write-up in the next couple days. On the water pump side, I used a 6" piece of 1-1/2" high pressure hose from Ace Hardware with a 1-1/4" NPT plug with some RTV on the threads on one end and two hose clamps. I must have a very small crack that opens up when the block overheats because I still had decent compression and it took probably 1/2 hour for a few beads of water to show up at the top of my liners, but it worked well enough for a positive diagnosis.
