The fuel filter will take you three hours to remove.
I highly recommend teh fuel filter kit from www.atlanticbritish.com, I had to cut mine off.
I used a hack saw and went at the fittings sideways, you will need to remove the tire to do this.
After you get the old one off it is easy after that.
I replace my fuel filter every spring, takes 15 minutes.

I wonder if there are fittings that go into the fuel filter the same as in the kit, as I have all the other things necessary.

Anyone know what they would even be called?

seems like 30 bucks could turn into 3 if I knew what to look for

Thanks for turning me onto that kit though...

I do not know what fittings they use, I bought the kit and kept the fuel filter for the next year, I didnt want to take any chances.
Also I use anti-sieze on the threads when I put the new filter on.
And then replace it once a year, I know they will last longer but fighting the rusted threads is to much of a PIA.

I wonder if I were to use a different type of fuel filter that already had ends like that like this one:

do they have a certain flow or anything I should worry about?

If the filter is to small then it will clog easily and not let enough fuel flow through.

Now I have to ask you, you complained about the previous owner half assing everything so why are you going to do the same?
I would bite the bullet and do it the right way.
Not trying to be a jerk, but why not do it right the first time?

Honestly... I have no money, i'm 17 and not allowed to work overtime

I looked into fuel filters that will work for what I needed (right flow, etc. link), and a new one would be 16 bucks, so I guess I will be getting the "right" stuff

the previous owner didn't just half *** though, the problem was he did nothing, and when something was done (spark plugs) he crossthreaded the block and kept going until the whole thing was ruined

I'm actually really glad you showed me that kit, Thanks!

I understand being on a tight budget. I am married with three kids.
I would hold off on the fuel filter until you can get the right one.
If it were completelt clogged and the truck didnt run, different story.
But if it needs to wait a month...so what.
If you set $5 aside every week in 2 months you will have enough for a new fuel filter kit including shipping.
Buy a couple less Monster drinks each week and save for the truck.
Thats what I have to do, I started selling plasma so that I can buy goodies for my truck and not tap into the monthly budget.

Just think of all the goodies you could buy if you stepped up from plasma to say a kidney or a lung. Most people have 2 of those and only need one.
