Price difference is huge. What am I missing?
A-B has Land Rover specific parts with pedigree or quality control, so easy to know you are getting the right parts, especially if there is no time to shop around, and especially for critical components. Rovers N too. Sometimes you have to read between the lines to determine if the parts are the same. I usually have enough time to compare, so I use Rock Auto a lot.
Recently needed front brake calipers. A-Zone had a good deal on reman units plus core charges, free shipping. Left one arrived, but new (cheapo with very few markings), not reman, I inspected and installed it. Right one was reman (Lockheed), but one of the wiper seals was not seated, loose and bent. Popped right out when I put air to it for testing the pistons. Ordered a right front reman (Lockheed) from O'R's, same problem of a bad wiper seal, but painted nicely. Ordered a new cheapo unit from Rock Auto and the seals are perfect, so that's what I installed, less price and no core charge. The higher priced calipers from A-B would probably been fine right out of the box, even though the photos show no markings. So if I had a schedule to keep I probably would still order new from Rock Auto, since the photos from A-B and L8 look just like the cheapo units I got with no markings on the cast pieces.
Also picked up pipes (hose to caliper) on ebay for $11 each. A-B sells pipes (Genuine) for $164 left side and $90 right side. I think A-B has a good understanding of who their customers are.

I always try and shop around. LR direct usually has cheap parts, but are sometimes sold in bulk like Costco. Shipping is surprisingly cheap (from UK-CA), it was $30-35 if I remember correctly.
