i thought there were too many mods to justify that price.

i could see a stock, showroom quality D2 getting top dollar.

at least that's the way things were back when i had an old VW bus. the stock, showroom quality Type 2s always got more money than a modded version.

No, but mine does because I had them and like the look better. I have a full rack so their uselessness is inconsequential to me.

I know everyone will probably disagree with me, but I do think is asking price is fair. He is just trying to re-coup what he has spent on it. I bought my 2004 disco in 2019 for $3,000, and since then have put $17,000 into it in repairs and modifications. I'm not saying he'll get $30K for his, but maybe $25K given the low mileage and rust free frame.

I don't disagree with you at all Tim. That said, overspending to make a vehicle they way you want it is always risky if you want to get the money back. I'm pretty sure making money by upgrading wasn't your intent, but I think the seller in the OP's link is being a little optimistic. To me it appears as if he built this truck because it had low mileage and he wanted to jazz it up for a big sale, which is exactly the opposite of what you did (or I would do). pagoda's point illustrates this perfectly. Otherwise, why the hell would you bolt all that crap on there and never once use it for what it's intended for? This seller probably got stars in his eyes because of BaT, and is hoping to find someone who also drank from the same cup. Who knows, he just might. I would much prefer bone stock myself but I'm probably the minority there. Again, the rarer these trucks get and the more they sell for simply means the market for the average truck goes up proportionately.

@ahab, I see your point. It does appear he was going for a flip on this truck. If that's what someone wants to do, they should put in on BaT. I've seen nice D2's going for mid-20's and up on BaT.

Me, I love mine too much to ever part with it

I know a guy whose whole business revolves around selling '04 Disos with accessories for $28-30k. It's definitely doable.

For my Disco 2 I paid $7K + another $5K in upkeep and additions but is worth an avg $3.2K on Kelly Blue Book.

That seems low JUKE179r. Just did a kelly blue book on our 03 the other day, because my wife slipped in the ditch and caused some damage and was afraid the insurance company might total it. And it came in at 5700/7600. I've noticed kelly to be a bit low on pricing...and they don't seem to keep up with values on account of diminishing samples available in the market place. Theses Dll's are disappearing daily, so pricing is going to continue to increase...as long as it's a well maintained/clean example...in my opinion.
