Default Problems with Right Signal

Having an intermittent problem and wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue with suggestions on repairs.

The problem is the right turn signal will just activate on its own at random times. Never really for any length of time to diagnose the problem and it is not something that happens every day. Sometimes I can go weeks or months without an issue.

Flashers will work properly. When the right signal is acting up: I can not cancel it or activate the left turn. But I can switch on the 4 way flashers.

I can remove the right relay to stop the flashing but the left will not work until the issue corrects itself. Switching or replacing relays makes no difference. Kicking, cussing, swearing and even dog barking at it as she sits in passenger seat, make no difference.

It never does this except when I am in town so that everyone thinks I am actually using the signal because I am going to make a turn. Or when there might be one of those special vehicles around with the flashing lights that nobody wants to see.

Anyway, it usually stops this after a few minutes and never gives me a chance to dig into any further. So any ideas on where to go from here?

Have you checked the turn signal switch itself?
I have a spare if you need one.

It's either the turn signal switch, the turn signal relay 'clicker' thingy or the earth ground, most likely the turn signal relay 'clicker' thingy.

I have not. Just did not seem like a switch issue but I had not really thought about swapping it. It has been such a random occurrence that I have not been able to identify anything that would trigger it. When I happens it is just out of the blue and usually while I am driving straight. I may take you up on the offer. Will let you know. Thanks.

I have not tried the switch but have replaced the relays and swapped them around. I don’t think this had the traditional turn signal relay but I could be wrong. There are 2 relays in the main fuse box under the dash. One is for right side and one for the left side. When it acts up:!i pull the relay for the right side. That stops the signal at theat point and the left side will not work until the issues has cleared itself. When it clears: the left signal will work even with the right relay out. At that point I can put the right relay back until it shows its head again. I guess it could also be a fuse box issue. I have not tried replacing that either. I hate to just throw parts at it without knowing what the issue really is.
