Default Left /Right signal inconsistent

Hello,

I am noticing that my signal flasher are working very inconsistently. The right signal works well but the left works only when it is warm. When we have freezing weather ( chicago ) my left signal will either work inconsistently or not at all. I was told it couldn't be the flasher since the flasher either works or dosen't with no inbetween and in my case the right side works and left is inconsistent.

A ground thing??

Pls. advice.

Thanks,
Gerard

Most likely a lamp on the bad side has an intermittent filament or bad socket connection. The amount of current drawn through the flasher affect how fast it flashes, or if it flashes at all.

also One side of a flasher can burn out, I have wasted a lot of time checking wires only to find out a new flasher fixed the problem.

On the Disco II turn signals are controlled by some type of electronic system in the fuse box. Each side has a separate relay and current sensing resistor.

The turn signal switch runs into the body control unit, which then controls the electronic flasher.

Try your 4 way flashers, and check all of the lamps. If they're all working correctly, then I would check the turn signal switch.

It has something to do with the lube on the stalk getting too cold and not allowing the electrical connection. Mine does it each winter. I'm sure I could take it apart and mess with it, but isn't that much of an issue. Sometimes it is the one side, sometimes both. The colder it gets the longer the delay. Once the truck heats up inside, it is fine. I just have to remember to signal a bit early for the first 5 minutes of driving when really cold!

I vote for the switch too. When it's really cold out my wiper switch doesn't work well on the mist wipe unless I wiggle it as I push down.

The switch can be DIY rebuilt, there have been posts about it. You can also use a hair dryer and direct heat toward the stalk switch for testing (no too much, plastic drools). Pretty common.
