Project Discovery 2, need help with transfer case shifting

No worries about the hi-jack lol. I cant wait to get my land rover going. I think I got a really good one. 99 with no sunroof, no ACE, and no SLS. On top of that the previous owner put on a TJM bumper, hella 400 lights, OME 2" lift, heated seat mod, cd changer, and rubber mats/ oem LR seat covers. Has some totally dry rotter bfg mt's with 90% tread. what a waste all that for $1100! so I decided that after pouring 4k into the motor ill have a solid discovery!

Yeah I have no idea. I haven't found any spare bolts in my transmission pan and I've changed the filter a couple of times. Since it apparently does no harm let's call it a feature. Like a spare button on a shirt. The magnet will catch any metal shavings (hopefully there are none) so that's another feature. I don't recall a magnet just laying in mine but it actually sounds like a good idea. Maybe the last owner had some old time Rover mechanic in him or her.

lol agreed. by the looks of it, most components in the AT are held on by more than 2 bolts so one missing one shouldn't be the end of the world.
Im becoming a rover mechanic quickly all i need to keep the motivation going is a little youtube and the gallery here. plus i sit in the drivers seat and pretent to be in the camel trophy.

UPDATE:
as i suspected earlier, i placed the hi-n-lo shifter in the wrong area. Just a newbie mistake. In the process i removed the shift interlock cylinder and with no engine, and the transmission in neutral, i am able to shift into hi and lo by rolling the car back and forth a few inches. Glad that it wasnt something worse.
Thank you for everyones answers.

How did you mis-place the shifter? the physical shifter, or the linkage? I'm getting into this pretty soon and I've been doing a lot of reading so that I can work around other guys' mistakes LOL

please see this picture. note the shaft has a flat spot milled where the lever arm should go. I mistakenly put it at the end of the rod because it fit perfectly.
