Default transfer case shifting

Back again with another problem. I got the new drive shaft in and all is running well so I wanted test all of the transfer case positions but am having trouble. I can go straight up and down between hi-neutral-low with no issues. I can not go left or right to the locked or unlocked. I hear no grinding when trying to moved shifter and drives fine on highway just afraid from the post I have searched through about driving in locked postitions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thats because you have a '01, you do not have that option.

That is really good to know. Why does it have the shifting chart then?

They all have the shifting chart, but only the ones that have diflock have the chart that shows how to lock it. If yours has the diagram with the lock option, then a privious owner must have stuck it on there.

Does me having the ability to lock out the front diff with that nut on top of the transfer case make a difference?

No. consider yourself fortunate to have the transfer case locking nut on top of the case. This means your transfer case can be locked. Unless the shifter has been changed to either a 2004 shifter, or a shifter from a D1, you will not be able to lock the transfer case from inside the vehicle.

If you lock the Transfer Case, you should not drive it on dry pavement. It will affect handling and wear out parts quickly.

Cheapest option is to find some one parting out a DI, or find one at a you-wrench-it place and take the t-case linkage and shifter and install it into your truck.
