Default Prop-shaft Grease issue - maybe? [Solved]

I am doing the Major service slowly on my new to me Discovery 2 - and have attempted to grease the prop-shaft.

However when i attempt to pump grease it just comes out around the zerk fitting, is this what is supposed to happen? If not what should happen?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Solution:

I am ashamed to admit the answer was PRESS hard. Apparently the end of my gun is a little funny - so i had to unscrew the nozzle then tighten the nozzle on the zerk. THEN i had to press down on it while i pumped. Looks like i need to by a new fitting for my gun.

you can try replace the zerk fitting, sound like it isn't screwed in all the way to begin with. if working properly your should see/hear the grease seeping out the u joint caps

You might check to make sure the grease gun fitting is mounted firmly on the zerk fitting, push on it while pumping the grease.

Once you get the zerk sorted out, you should pump in grease until you see new grease coming from around each of the 4 seals. You'll want some paper towels to wipe off the excess once you're done.

also check the grease gun end fitting, they do wear out, and are cheap.

don't forget to grease the centering ball, between the double u-joint.

You will need a Lincoln needle adapter and press it against the needle-point fitting. It's really small and easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for (and it's covered with grease)

It will look something like the following photo in the link, except it will be on the centering ball and not the u-joint:

You can search this site to find out what happens if you religiously grease the u-joints, but fail to grease the center ball... .

You can't do this on a factory front drive shaft. You have to physically remove the shaft and dismantle the double cardon joint to service it.

There's nothing in the OP indicating anything other than perhaps a rebuilt OE propshaft.

There's a tiny hole in the back side of the center hear opposite the center bearing where grease can be pumped in using a bent syringe needle grease gun attachment.
