Does it matter what type of oil you use on the Discovery? I mean for example Synthetic etc..

No, any top line oil will be fine, try and stay some where between the 5W/30 and th 10W/40 area and use a good filter like a K&N 3001 or the Mobil 1 filters chnaging your oil every 3000 miles.
