Default Question about HG kits?

Just doing a little bit of "pre" planning for the inevitable HG job and had a question about the difference between AB vs. Lucky8 kits.. Both come with head bolts and all gaskets but the price difference is.. quite a lot.

Luck8 is $85 and AB is $220.

Thoughts?

Lots of guys have e used the L8 kit without issue. I plan to on another Disco (or two... It's a disease) in the near future.

You pay extra for the AB service/selection, polish and fluff. Parts are similar quality.

L8 kit doesn't have the throttle body heater other than that identical kits. that said the heater isn't worth the price difference

Also not required; it doesn't have to be removed. Worth bypassing to remove the leak point though, though that's contested.

I've used the Lucky8 kit, no issues.

eh, pointless to do all that work and not replace it while it's easily accessible. It's less than $20 and if you live in a climate that gets cold winters it's a must, I've never had a vehicle that the throttlewould freeze on so regularly in the cold as this truck did when I had it bypassed.

Do yourself a favor if it's in your budget, and get the ARP stud kit. They'll save you much anxiety over the TTY bolts, less strain on your block, and reusable.

Yeah, Ive had APR stuff on other cars before -- certainly good stuff. I guess we'll see which Rover i end up purchasing.. Its amazing how many people DON'T want to take my money for their trucks -- its driving me insane.

I disagree. If it's not leaking and you intend to leave it, I wouldn't touch it and risk creating a leak.

I live where it gets below zero F few times a year and haven't had an issue in 3 or so years. If you're having a sticking issue, go check out Best4x4's BMW coolant tank thread. It appears to be more of a gumming issue than a freezing issue.
