Default Question about the tick...

I have it on my 2004 Disco II. I have no other symptoms. Truck runs cool never been over heated or run hot no misfires idles smooth as butter , just had 100K major service done.

Brand new plugs, oil pump assembly, water pump, idle pulley, timing chain, serpentine belt, O2 sensors and mass air flor sensor not to mention all the under stuff done as well.

Seems to be loudest when in gear when there is a load on the engine. When in neutral or park its not as loud.

Only issue is the muffler system is borked getting a new Flow master put on Wednesday. Maybe its a exhaust manifold tick?

Question is is it anything to worry about? Local Indy Rover tech says it's nothing to worry about "they all do it". But I wonder if it's something that will rear it's ugly head down the road.

Truck as 126K miles head gaskets done sometime ago tech says unless its over heating and eating coolant we can wait on the head gasket.

It doesn't bother me I just hope it's not something really serious.

Just did some reading, seems to be what it is. Seems you can have a slipped liner and still have a good running truck.

Would it be worth the expense to pull the engine and have a machine shop replace the Rover liners with the top hat liners when I do the head gasket?

I know a head gasket change is in my future, that maybe a good time to replace the old liners.

See this thread... It was driving me nuts - Ended up being a fairly simple and inexpensive fix once found...

At least tell us what oil you are using.

Had the Indy shop change it when the full service was done I forgot to ask the weight I will do that ASAP.

Well I can say definitively that when the truck is parked at Idle there is no Tick. When I put the truck in Drive with the break on the Tick is loud.

As I said my muffler system is completely screwed up. There is a broken weld where the main shaft attaches to the Cats.
