Default Question about turning radius 03 vs 04

Hey guys, I have a question about the turning radius on the 03 HSE7 (bone stock) vs the 04 SE (Old Man EMU Lift)
The 04 has a MUCH tighter turning radius radius than the 03. I mean....a lot tighter.
Anyone know why this might be?

Turn Stops can be different. 16inch wheel equipped D2's had one size turn stop & 18inch wheel equipped D2's had another. However LR being LR sometimes got that wrong so it's basically a 50/50 thing. All you have to do to make custom turn stops is get the same size threaded bolt, and either use washers or a sleeve to get the preferred amount of turn you want without rubbing.

I've got this on my Disco 2 cheat sheet...
Shorten 29mm Steering Stops: 23mm stops LR part #FTC5151 or M12 Hex head bolt Grade 10.9 add washers or nut to a size 23mm length. Decreases turning radius by 1.5 meters.

*EDIT... I corrected the part number to FTC5151.

That's good info Juke. When I got my D2, I was surprised that it didn't turn as tight as my P38, even though the D2 has an 8" shorter wheel base. I'll have to play with this sometime.

So could I make my turn stops longer to get rid of my tire rub at full lock?

Yes, you could. I on the other hand was tired of the crappy turn radius on my 16" wheel equipped 00 so I took the stops out and threw them away. No major detrimental effects.

Years ago when hot rods came with really small wheels and tires we always had rubbing when you put big tires on, have worn most of the blackwall off before - still no giant problems.

Thanks! Makes sense. Something to look into later. It’s a real annoyance though. I think my RAM may turn tighter.

I need to check and see if the turn stops have been removed from my 04. That thing turns ridiculously tight. Previous went down to 255/70 and there’s no rub at all so I’m not sure what it will do with taller tires.

For 16 years I’ve complained that the Disco had the turning radius of the Queen Mary.

Not any more!

BOOM!

My bad... I had the wrong part number in my previous post.
The correct part number for the 23mm stop is FTC5151.
